Contacting Drew @ Sea

Now that I am a full-fledged big-time 30-year-old adult (grey hair and all), I think that I'm entitled to a mid-life crisis. Rather than buying a fancy car I can't afford, or dating a teenager (I can't afford), I'm going to travel instead. I wanted to make sure that everyone had my contact info. If you get an itch to send me a little note, picture, card, funny newsclipping, etc... I'd really love it.

You can try emailing me at drew_adelman@hotmail.com, but my internet time will be severely limited, so you may not get a timely response. Your best bet is to send me something the old fashion way... Elvis stamps and all. The address info is below.

The U.S. Post Office recommends sending international mail AT LEAST two weeks in advance. Please keep in mind that mail service in other countries may vary. WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND that letters be sent via AIRMAIL only and that you DO NOT SEND PACKAGES. In many cases, packages are held up in customs or the local post office and excessive duty is charged. Many times packages are not received by the intended recipient onboard. We also recommend that you do not enclose currency in the mail. The port agent in each country will make every possible effort to deliver mail to the ship however, the Institute for Shipboard Education will not assume responsibility for any undelivered or lost mail.

Since Puerto Rico is your first stop and I hung out there for several weeks last year, I thought you should know a few things about this commonwealth island in the Caribbean. Here we go...

1) Tostones are the official snack food of Puerto Rico, muy delicioso! Basically they are fried plantains enjoyed with a frothy Pina Colada also the national drink.

2) Dominos is the favorite game of the locals you can view the perfect game right next to the dock where 4 old dudes sit under the tree playing all day. They are right next to the empenada stand where you will probably board your boat.

3) WARNING! There have been a few incidences that I experienced where men are satisfying themselves in public so don't be surprised if you see this. It's pretty common there.

4) If you have time hike in the El Yunke Rainforest it is amazing and worth the hike to the top where you can see all the way to the Virgin Islands. It’s a pretty challenging hike!

5) Reggaton is the music you are sure to hear all over the island. I personally am not a fan; to me it all sounds alike with the same basic beat.

6) Senor Frogs in San Juan is pretty fun and has a mix of Americans and Boriquans picking up Americans.

7) If you drive beware that there are toll roads around the island and that most Puerto Ricans do not use turn signals, run red lights, drunk drive, and seldom there are street name signs. Get a good map!!!

8) Go to Fajardo to the Bioluminescent Bay and do the ocean kayak tour not the boat tour. It is absolutely amazing. They let you swim in the Mangrove bay and all the water around you glows in the dark and you can see the fish underwater moving. If you do one thing in Puerto Rico it is this one!!!

9) Stay away from Chicharrones, ugh!! It is salty fried pork fat, kinda looks like tater tots.

And finally...

10) Once a month there is a street festival in Old San Juan that is kind of like Marti Gras. I think it takes place on the last Thursday of every month. ASk the locals, it’s a great way to study the people and get lucky ;)
Have Fun!!!
