A Pleasant Trip

So I went out for chinese food tonight... (Something I almost never do) since I figured I might as well enjoy the cuisine before visiting the country, right? (yes, I know, a big leap to make, but nonetheless...)

At the end of my meal I had a fortune cookie, and the message inside: "You will have a pleasant trip."

No lie... That's really what it said.

I'm taking it as a good omen. Wouldn't you?

My Assignments!

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Well I just received all sorts of news about my trip. I am going to be coordinating the efforts Diversity and Spirituality programming for our Student Life team. I've very excited to be piloting this new position. I also found out that I will be the RD for Deck 2 on the ship. I hear that the folks on Deck 2 usually develop a tight-knit community b/c there aren't many folks down there. I'm looking forward to it, but also a little worried, b/c I hear that the lower you are in the ship, the more likely you are to get sea sick. (Getting sea sick is one of the big fears Ive got about a 100 day voyage, yikes!). Plus, I'll also be the only RD on Deck 2. I know that I'll be fine within about 20 minutes of being on board the ship, but still makes me nervous since I won't have any "partners in crime" on my deck.

Speaking of my fellow Student Life staff members. They seem like a really fun group so far. They sound active, and sporty, and well travelled... and also sound like they are really solid student affairs professionals and big social justice advocates. Just my kind of people. Can't wait to meet them, and all of our students!

Wow... A little over two months away. Yikes! (again!!)

Well... until the next update...

Be well.

I'm Officially a Blogger!

Wow... look at me. I am joining the cyber world in ways I never imagined. Well, I guess after spening the last two months reading other people's blog about their journies around the world, I should prepare my little corner of the net to record my travels. Jan 29. That's the date I head to the Bahamas to become a Resident Director for the Spring 2007 Voyage of Semester at Sea. I'll be circumnavigating the globe with bout 700 college students. 13 ports of call... 100+ days. Call me crazy, but I think it's going to be a wild ride.

Just thinking that in a two short months I will be packing my bags for the voyage of a lifetime starts getting me all excited. Hell, I've got 23 books in my bedroom on various countries and travel tips. I could do bibliotherapy between now and Nassau and I'm sure I still won't be ready. I guess it'll be a leap into the great unknown. ButI'll be damned if I'm not looking forward to it.

Here we go.....
